17/10 Again on St Marys - we managed to avoid seeing most of the rarities still present, dipping on Blue-winged Teal, Mandarin, Red-backed Shrike, Blue Rock thrush, Wryneck and initially White-rumped Sandpiper. The latter turned up 10 minutes after we had left the scene and I returned to get some pictures.

15/10: The southerly winds of the last few nights have failed to deliver the promised haul of rare moths. Today was sunny in the morning and wet and windy by late afternoon. We stayed on St Marys and enjoyed the fabulous views.
16/10: After a slow morning, again enjoying the magnificent St Marys scenery, Ben and I went on a mini-pelagic on the Sapphire. 4 hours on the sea mainly to the north of St Martins. Highlights were a close Sooty Shearwater, a more distant adult Pomarine Skua and Common Dolphins riding the bow wave. |
