Day 17 - Saturday 18/09/2105: Perinet and back to Tana
After this interlude, we returned to Perinet. Here we split into an Indri group, which Alison joined, and a birds group, which consisted of just Johnny, Shari and me. The Indri group eventually found some Indri and Alison was able to see them during a song display; something we had heard but not seen yesterday. In the bird group, we again found none of the target species and again Patrice worked very hard in his efforts to find a Collared Nightjar. Despite this failure, we did see a number of species well that we had only seen once or twice before and we had a thoroughly enjoyable morning in the forest. The best part of the morning for me was during one of Patrice’s disappearances (looking for the nightjar), when we were left in dense forest with dappled sunlight with two groups of Indri and 3 species of Coua all singing close by for about 10 mins; apart from brief glimpses of a Blue Coua, I didn’t actually see any of the animals involved in this chorus. Video with audio of this is available here.
