One new moth in the trap this morning - Double Line - a scarce species with a distribution predominantly in SW England and Wales.
On 7th May a Dalmatian Pelican was reported from West Cornwall. This was too far for me to twitch from Essex, but I said to Alison that if it was still present when we were in Devon we could go to see it. Over the intervening 6-7 weeks it has been travelling around West Cornwall but favouring Restronguet Creek (south of Truro) and the Hayle Estuary. This morning it was reported to be at Restronguet and we made the decision to go for it. Although closer than Essex this was still a 2.5 hour drive each way - but we did see it. The question of whether this is to be regarded as a genuine vagrant is to be answered by the rarities committee in due course.
