Meall Greigh (1001m), Meall Garbh (1123m), An Stuc (1117m) - 16/06/2021
Distance: 16.5km; Ascent: 1230m; Time 7h15m
Parking for this walk is in Lawers and involves a short walk along the A827 to get to the start of the walk proper which is behind the bone-carvers shop. The path follows the Lawers Burn, diverging from this path before it descends to cross the burn. A steep grassy slope ascends Meall Greigh, with great views back along Loch Tay and across to Ben Lawers and the daunting An Stuc ahead. From here a fine path undulates for 1.5km before ascending to Meall Garbh. I found a Ptarmigan with chicks and several Black Mountain Moths on this section. A steep descent from Meall Garbh leads to the beleach and the prospect of a steep scramble up An Stuc. Although this was a little exposed in places it didn't present any real problems in the fine conditions of the day (I think it would be very hazardous in wet conditions and impassable in snow). From here there is the possibility of continuing to Ben Lawers, but having done this before I took the steep descent to Lochan nan Cat. The walk out from here along the outflow and then the Lawers Burn was very pleasant across moderately boggy ground.
