Overview
This was my 28th and Alison’s 21st visit to the Isles of Scilly. We stayed at Peacehaven, near Watermill in the north-east of St Marys; our 4th stay in this isolated self-catering accommodation, about as far from Hugh Town as it is possible to be. This year we were joined by our daughter Emma, her boyfriend Ed and our nephew David.
The weather was warm, sunny and calm for the first 13 days; cloudy in the mornings with sunny afternoons on days 14 & 15; rainy in the morning and cloudy in the afternoon of day 16; sunny again on day 17, more windy, mainly from the south, on the night of day 17 and all through day 18 which was wet in the morning, cloudy in the afternoon; mostly sunny again on days 19 & 20.
Birding was generally slow but pleasant, with no major twitches and no new birds for me and just Siberian Chiffchaff added on the last day for Alison
Moth migration provided a few scarce species and one species new for me.
In a departure from the usual day by day account this report is divided into the following pages: There and back, Birds, Moths & Butterflies, St Marys, St Agnes, Tresco, Bryher, St Martins
