Beinn Alligin: Tom na Cruagaich (922m), Sgùrr Mòr (986m) -19/06/2022
Distance: 10.5km; Ascent: 1190m; Time: 7h30m
I did this walk with my brother-in-law Alan. Torridon was very busy with an extreme Celtman event so we were a bit surprised to find no-one else in the car park for Beinn Alligin - an we only saw one other person on the route.
A steep ascent took us into the mist at about 700m, and we stayed in the mist for about 2 hours while we topped both Munro summits. This involved a fair amount of scrambling but nothing too difficult. Descending from Sgurr Mor the mist cleared and the horns of Alligin came into view. Fortunately the wind was light and the horns we traversed, also without too much difficulty, and with great views down the steep drop-off on either side of the ridge. The bypass for the 3rd horn was very much easier than the scramble over it; I took the bypass while Alan scrambled over the top. The descent was at least as steep as the ascent and also involved some scrambling. Once alongside the Abhainn Coire Mhic Nobuil the going was very easy and now in lovely evening sunshine back to the carpark. |
