Moths138 Lepidopteran species were seen during our stay either light-trapped or observed by day (which coincidentally is exactly the same as we had in our autumn trip last year; but seems like a low total for a June visit)
1 Species was new for me: Brevicornutia pallidana (Sheeps-bit Straw) which has Sheeps-bit as the larval food plant and the adults can be found nectaring on the flowers at dusk. I also found/trapped several species I haven't seen much before: Mullein, Thrift Clearwing and Shore Wainscot being the most notable. |
As expected for June migrant numbers were low and there were no real rarities. To be consistent with my usual recording of our Scilly trips I have recorded migrant totals below - the numbers show total number obtained in 13 nights of trapping / highest number for a single night and / number of nights on which the species was obtained.
Plutella xylostella (Diamond-back Moth) Udea ferrugalis (Rusty Dot Pearl) Nomophila noctuella (Rush Veneer) Eudonia angustea (Narrow-winged Grey) Macroglossum stellatarum (Hummingbird Hawk-moth) Autographa gamma (Silver Y) Mythimna vitellina (Delicate) Mythimna unipuncta (White-speck) Mythimna l-album (L-album Wainscot) Agrotis segetum (Turnip) Agrotis ipsilon (Dark Sword-grass) |
