24th April - Pinnacles NP
After our morning walk in the Dryandra Forest we drove 400km north to Cervantes, with a bit of a detour as we tried to negotiate our way through Perth. We arrived in time to spend the last 2-3 hours of the day in the Pinnacles NP - our main reason for coming here.
It is not really known how the pinnacles came into being but there are two main theories - explained below:
We were booked to stay in the Cervantes Pinnacles Motel (actually 16km from the Pinnacles) for two nights. Because we had been without internet for the past 3 nights we had not received the message cancelling our booking - on the grounds that the motel had no electricity, and no ability to drain its sewerage, following a forest fire taking out 2 pylons. This proved to be fortunate as we were relocated to the Pinnacles Resort with a free upgrade and a free first night - due to the lack of electricity (the resort being on a different sewerage system) - and the electricity came back on while we were unloading the car.
