Lizard - 04/10/2019
We stayed at the Housel Bay Hotel for the night of 03/10. I set moth traps in a valley a short distance west of here along the coastal path, in an area with much flowering ivy. As well as a few migrants (Palpita vitrealis, White Speck, Delicate) I was successful with my main target species: Large Ranunculus.
After a pleasant breakfast with a fabulous view over the coastal scenery, we walked the coastal path. First we went to the east to Church Cove, where a Red-eyed Vireo (a North American trans-Atlantic vagrant) had been found 2 or 3 days earlier. We were successful in seeing it. Then we returned west and continued to Lizard Point.

Around midday we drove on from the Lizard to do one of the Lands End valleys. We chose Kenidjak, just north of St Just. This historic tin-mining valley has now been taken on by the National Trust. We had a very breezy walk here and found a pair of Chough.
We spent the night at the Star Inn in St Erth which was conveniently close to the Scilly Parking and provided an alright continental breakfast.
