Day10: 20/02/2024 – Sinharaja
Then we drove on to the Rain Forest Edge hotel, arriving in time for lunch. Later we headed into the forest in search of the Serendib Scops Owl. Fortunately, one of the rangers had located its roost site and we were able to see it fairly easily. Serendib Scops Owl, named from serendipity, was discovered new to science by our guide, Deepal, ~20 years ago. It rained for much of the afternoon, but in the forest not much of it actually reached us on the forest floor - but it did bring out the leeches - the only day on which we saw more than one.

After breakfast on day 10 we set off for the tropical rain forest of Sinharaja NP. We broke the journey at a tea plantation area and spent an hour or so birding and enjoying the lush scenery. |
