La Plagne, France 13-20/01/2024
It was nice to fly from Southend, but it took 2 hours from landing at Geneva airport to collect our luggage, 45 mins of this was in the queue for passport control - which is not automated for non-EU countries - one of the many predicted and realised disadvantages of Brexit. But even when we were through passport control our luggage had still not appeared on the carousel. On a more positive note the transfer was in a mini-bus without relay at Moutiers and took 2½ hours - an hour quicker than expected. We stayed at L'Eden des Cimes in Belle Plagne, the same hotel that Jon and I stayed in in 2022 - though I didn't write any blog about it as I had to sit out the whole week, apart from the first 4 hours, due to injury. But I liked the hotel and the little skiing I had done left me wanting to do more. Ski in - ski out and good food.
The first three days skiing were good. Then I had a day in bed suffering from a viral illness. I attempted skiing on the last two days without deriving much pleasure from it with low energy levels in white out and low cloud conditions. And the food at the hotel was not as good as last time. It was nice to have Alison with me - though she didn't ski - maybe next time!
Wildlife: Alpine Chough and Snow Finch were plentiful and it was nice to see an Alpine Accentor at the hotel on our first morning.
