DALMUNZIE ESTATE, Glenshee - 26th August to 2nd September 2016
This week we are staying in Dalmunzie cottage on the Dalmunzie Estate, near the Spittal of Glenshee, Perthshire, with Alison's brother John, Marina, Andrei and Maxim. We had originally booked this cottage with the idea that we would go on from here to Aberdeen and spend 2 weeks on Shetland, but various circumstances conspired against this possibility.
We left at 05:30 am and took 9 hours to arrive at the cottage.
During our stay Andrei and I managed 6 Munros, Alison 3 and John, Marina and Maxim 1
I trapped every night but only obtained 1 new moth species: Northern Arches
Amongst other things, we saw abundant Red Grouse and Red Deer; Ptarmigan and Dotterel on Glas Tulaichean; Black Grouse on Carn Bhac; and a self-found Surf Scoter at Blackdog - when on an unsuccessful twitch for White-winged Scoter.
The journey home took 10.5 hours with the congested Friday afternoon traffic.
