Central Sulawesi 20th-23rd October - Lore Lindu National Park - Days 3-6
Our accommodation at the Hotel Nasional in Wuasa was the most basic of the tour. There was no shower and no flushing toilet. Instead we had a large bucket of water and a scoop to pour it over ourselves as a "shower" and into the loo to flush it. We used this as a base to explore the nearby Lore Lindu National Park (20 minutes drive away); birding a mixture of parkland, roadsides and short trails. We also visited nearby rice paddies.

On 23rd October we returned to Palu where we stayed in an impressive looking hotel on a hillside overlooking the coast. Unfortunately, the large windows that provided a great view were poorly sealed and the hot wind blew into the room rendering the air conditioning completely redundant. We visited nearby paddy fields at dusk. This was one of the few occasions on which we saw large numbers of birds of several different species together. 20th October: 42 species seen, 25 new for me (best day of the tour) 21st October: 40 species seen, 8 new for me 22nd October: 39 species seen, 9 new for me 23rd October: 24 species seen, 4 new for me |
