Kicking Horse
Saturday 25th February: Flew Gatwick to Calgary with Westjet - the Canadian no frills airline. Met John Potter (who I had ski'd with last time I visited Canada 10 years ago) and Ian McKay (who I had last seen more than 40 years ago, when we were at school together) at Gatwick. As we were near to landing the flight steward announced that there were some celebrities on board - we had noticed that Eddie the Eagle was on the flight, but the celebrity in question was a world champion fire eater that no-one had heard of. Steve Dykes met us at Calgary and drove us the 3 hours across the Rockies to his house at Golden in British Columbia.
Sunday 26th February: Our first day of skiing at the wonderful Kicking Horse resort, probably the most challenging ski resort in the world - have a look at the proportion of blacks and double blacks in the list of ski trails below. Most of the runs are ungroomed and would be regarded as off piste or 'itinerary' runs in Europe. Today was the first outing for my new Monster Head skis - which performed exceedingly well. After a delicious steak dinner, prepared by Steve, we watched the Eddie the Eagle film on Netflix.
