Strathy Point - 20/06/2021
In the morning we visited the Forsinard RSPB reserve. This is supposedly the showpiece of the flow country, but on a cool overcast day it was disappointing. The visitor centre (in the Forsinard railway station) was closed. We saw very little wildlife and what we did see could be found anywhere else in north Scotland. Perhaps it would be better on a fine sunny day - but our judgement was that it is not worth visiting.
Later we went to Strathy Point for short walk out to the lighthouse. Here the wildlife was much more apparent and included 4 species of auk (Guillemot, Razorbill, Puffin and Black Guillemot), Great Skua, Manx Shearwater, Kittiwake, Fulmar, Gannet and others. It is said to be a good place to see cetaceans, but we saw none while we were there.
