Day 19 - Monday 21/09/2105: Tana
Air Madagascar strikes again. We were supposed to be flying north-east to Maroansetra for the start of the holiday extension today, but Air Mad has postponed our flight until tomorrow morning.
We had a later than usual breakfast at 07:30, at which we bid farewell to Johnny and Shari, who left today for their journey home to Oregon. The rest of us went shopping, including me! We visited a market with stalls of various types selling fabrics, ammonites, games, musical instruments, wood carvings, paintings, T-shirts etc etc. We haggled for every purchase we made and usually got the seller down to ¼ to 1/3 of his original price – but we still probably paid more than we might have. After 1½ hours or so we had all had enough of haggling and returned to the hotel.
After lunch we visited the local Crocodile Farm – where we saw some crocodiles, a heronry and a vivarium amongst other exhibits.
At dinner we said goodbye to Don and Carlene, who return to Washington tomorrow.
