Val d'Isere - 09-16/12/2021
Having missed out on any ski trip in the 2020/21 winter due to Covid lockdown, I decided to book an early season trip, in anticipation of further travel restrictions later in the season. This was looking like a decidedly dodgy decision the week before departure with little snow and few lifts and pistes open. But then at least a metre of snow fell in the 2 days before and after I arrived. I then had 5 days of glorious sunny skiing on fresh snow. On the day I returned France announced that they would be closed to British travellers from 2 days later, due to the emergence of the Omicron variant. looks like I timed it perfectly!
Having said that, it was a bit of a lonely experience - I self-catered and deliberately kept myself to myself to avoid the risk of a positive Covid test preventing me getting home for Christmas.
