Golden
Tuesday 28th February - today we drove from Golden to Fernie, but before we left I had a wander around Golden on a beautiful sunny morning. Not many bird species remain in Canada for the winter. I managed to find: Black-capped Chickadee, Red-breasted Nuthatch, Bohemian Waxwing (370 of), American Crow, Common Raven, American Magpie, American Robin and Northern Flicker.

Having arrived at Fernie and checked into the Stanford Hotel we went out for a meal. We were informed that the local Ice Hockey team had a match tonight - which we decided to go and see. A fast and furious and at times quite physically aggressive game - which the home side lost 3-2 to Kimberley. It's been snowing for most of the evening so there is every hope for a powder day tomorrow.
* I subsequently discovered that Townsend's Solitaire was new to me - the only tick of the trip. |
We made a few short stops en-route to Fernie to look at Columbia Lake and Wasa Lake - both of which were frozen over. Added Canada Goose, Bald Eagle and Townsend's Solitaire* to the bird list.
