Scotland 10th June to 2nd July 2021
We stopped over on our way north at Bakewell (10th June) in search of Cistus Forester at Longstone Edge. This is a species we have searched for, unsuccessfully, at the northern limit of its range at Warton Crags (Lancashire) and nearby Arnside Knott (Cumbria), on several occasions. This time we were successful - finding ~ 12 males and 1 female. Cistus Forester has rock-rose as its larval food plant and we have never before seen such an impressive display of this plant. The moth appears almost identical to Forester except that it is slightly smaller.
Had a pleasant meal at Piedaniels (recommended) and stayed at Sleep Lodge (pretty good).
On 11th June we drove on to the Village Inn in Arrochar. We have stayed here on our way north or south on 3 or 4 previous occasions and have always found it pleasant. The main reason for staying here this time was so that I could do Ben Vorlich and complete the Munros of the Arrochar alps.
From 12th to 19th June we stayed in a self-catering cottage at East Camghouran on Loch Rannoch, Perthshire - with Gaye and Alan
From 19th to 26th June we stayed in a self-catering cottage by Loch Naver, Sutherland (Old Grumbeg)
From 26th June to 3rd July we stayed in a self-catering cottage at Corglass, near Ballindalloch, Moray, close to the River Spey and the Cairngorms NP
