Pembrokeshire Coastal Path 23-27/04/2024
Having enjoyed the Hadrian's Wall coast to coast walk ~15 years ago, we have had it in mind to do another long distance route, but have never got around to organising it until now. The weather in the two weeks leading up to our walk had been horribly wet and very windy, so we were glad to find the winds had subsided and the rain had ceased by our first day - and amazingly we did not get rained on at all while we were out walking.
On the way here we stayed over for one night (21/04) with Claire and Nigel (pictured right), my sister and brother-in-law, who looked after us in grand style. On 22/04 we drove to Newport (Pembrokeshire), where we stayed for the last 2 nights of our time here - and got a taxi (Frank's Cabs) to St Davids, where we had our first 2 nights. |
We did the northern half of the Pemrokeshire Coastal Path, from St Justinians to St Dogmaels in 5 days. According to the route description this is a distance of 101km with 4000m of ascent. By the time we had also walked to and from the path at the beginning and end of each day we actually walked 108km with 4360m of ascent. And each successive day we walked a little further with a bit more ascent than the previous day. |
Images from each day are in the pages that follow
On the way home on 28/04 we visited the Welsh National Botanic Garden (near Carmarthon). This seemed to be of note more for the architectural feat of having the world's largest single span glass house than for its botanical interest. But it was laid out in nice parkland and made a decent break in our journey - though the coffee at the cafe was about the worst we have had.
