18/10 A blustery day with prolonged sunny spells and fairly frequent short-lived showers. We walked around the leeward side of St Marys and visited higher and lower moors. We enjoyed close-in views of a nearly full summer plumage Great Northern Diver, a female Mandarin (a new Scilly bird for us) some obscured views of the Blue-winged Teal and finally saw a Water Rail - having heard them every day.
19/10: St Agnes: after watching most of the England vs Australia world cup rugby match we taxi'd to the quay for the 10:15 boat to St Agnes. Had a nice day failing to see Spotted Sandpiper and Common Rosefinch we were more successful with Subalpine Warbler. Year-ticked Hawfinch back on St Marys at end of day.
