Day 2 - Around Coral Bay - 01/03/2028
In coming to Cyprus at this time I had it in mind to do some early spring birding in the expectation of finding a reasonable amount of migration occurring. In fact we didn't find anywhere where birds were easy to see. For example, despite visiting 3 reservoirs during our stay we didn't see a single duck. On our first morning I got up at dawn to explore the area around our hotel and was pleased to find Sardinian Warbler, Crested Lark, Blue Rock Thrush, Desert Wheatear and I flushed a Quail.
After a leisurely breakfast, we visited the nearby Mavrokolympos dam. There were no birds at all on the water, few birds of interest, but we had a pleasant enough stroll in the surrounding scrubland.
After returning to the hotel for a siesta, we made a more extensive outing to the headland north of the hotel. This was also a very pleasant stroll, but the birds were few. We only added Laughing Dove and Black-eared Wheatear.
