Geal Charn (Drumochter) (917m) and A Mharconaich (975m) - 2 Munro's - 26/09/2019
Distance: 11.5km; Ascent: 731m: Time: 3h30m
I started my journey south through mist and rain around Lochcarron. By the time I reached Inverness the sun was shining and I was optimistic that I could get a walk in. I found a pair of Munro's where the walk starts from the A9 and made the first ascent of the Drumochter Geal Charn (there being 3 other Munro's named Geal Charn - it literally translates as "White Hill") in reasonably good weather. Cloud gathered during my descent into the beleach between the two hills and my ascent of the 2nd hill A' Mharconaich was in driving rain. The 2nd descent is through very boggy ground. I'm not sure if there is an easy crossing of Allt Coire Fhar, but I made the mistake of staying on its south side beyond the point indicated on the Walk Highlands route plan and found it impassable. I ended up climbing a fence to get onto the railway crossing - fortunately this was not too difficult.
